SIL vs SDA vs STA: what is the difference?

The NDIS has a lot of similar-sounding terms. SIL, SDA and STA all relate to support and accommodation, but they fund different things.

NDIS explainers | 6 min read

SIL funds daily support

Supported Independent Living is about the worker support a person needs to live more independently. It may include daily routines, personal care, meals and overnight support.

SDA funds specialist housing

Specialist Disability Accommodation is about the physical home for people with very high support needs or extreme functional impairment. It is separate from the workers who provide support.

STA is short-term accommodation

Short Term Accommodation can provide temporary support, respite or a short stay away from home. It is not the same as ongoing independent living support.
